The 2018 regular season rolls on for No. 17 Tulane beach volleyball this weekend. The Green Wave head to Birmingham, Alabama, to compete in the Blazer Beach Duals and face Mercer and Austin Peay on Friday before squaring off against Louisiana Monroe and host and conference foe UAB on Saturday.

BACK IN ACTION
Tulane will play four duals across the two-day competition, starting things off with a dual against Mercer, which set for 10 a.m. Friday. Tulane then faces Austin Peay at 2 p.m. to conclude the first day.
The Green Wave start early in day two with an 8 a.m. dual against Louisiana Monroe before wrapping up the weekend against UAB at 2 p.m. While the dual against host UAB is Tulane’s first CCSA match-up of the regular season, Tulane played UAB in the fall preseason, sweeping by a score of 5-0.
LAST TIME OUT
The Green Wave’s trip west was a success, as the team completed the weekend with a 3-2 record to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Tulane went 2-1 in day one of the Stanford Invitational, topping Boise State and San Jose State before falling to No. 14 Stanford to conclude the tripleheader. The Wave fell to Cal, 5-0, to begin day two, but earned a hard-fought 3-2 win against Arizona State in the afternoon session to conclude their trip.
Tulane’s No. 1 pair of senior Madeline Mertz and sophomore Kaylie McHugh had a 4-1 record, going 3-0 in day one of the event and dropping just four sets all weekend. Mertz and McHugh began the weekend on Friday with a win by the score of 19-21, 21-15, 15-12 against Boise State’s No. 1 duo, and their success continued in their second Friday dual, winning in straight sets (21-14, 21-10) against San Jose State’s top pair.
Mertz and McHugh finished their perfect Saturday with a 21-19, 18-21, 15-12 win against No. 14 Stanford’s top duo. Mertz and McHugh picked up their fourth dual win of the weekend in day two, topping Arizona State’s No. 1 pair in straight sets by a score of 21-18, 21-6.
