The 20th ranked high school team in the nation, Bishop Moore Catholic, was looking to have another successful season, but two of the schools top players chose to forgo their senior season. In 2016, Bishop Moore went 32-1 and won their fourth Florida state title in five years.
The school only graduate two seniors and were looking to having a solid 2017 showing. However, Gracie Ryan and Shannon Crenshaw all decided not to participate this 2017 season, along with junior Peyton Grace Garrison. Though this is not common, it has become a growing trend among senior players to not play their final year before heading off to college to eliminate the risk of injury. This season, Asjia O’Neal as 2018 Texas commit decided to forgo her senior season, making it a huge blow for Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas. In addition, Lexi Sun, who recently arrived at Texas took her junior season off but rejoined the team her senior season.
Crenshaw is a Washington commit while Ryan is set to attend Arkansas in 2018.
Left on the team are setter Cameron Scheitzach a 2018 Kentucky commit, setter Marlie Monserez a 2018 Florida commit, middle blocker Claire Meier a 2018 Wofford commit and outside hitter Lauren Davis a 2019 Texas A&M commit.
Note: A prior version of this article stated that Peyton Grace Garrison would be forgoing her senior season, this, however, was incorrect and is opting out of her junior year, which we have corrected.
Actually, Peyton Grace Garrison did opt out of this year’s high school season. However, she is in the 2019 class, and therefore, it is her junior year she has chosen to forgo.
