Two Teams Don’t Drop A Set In The Open Division Of Junior Nationals

2017 USA GIRLS’ 18S JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

After the first day of play at the 2017 USA Girls’ 18s Junior National Championships, a number of teams have swept their competition thus far at the Open Division.

All of the Open Division level brackets are split into six pools of six teams, with all teams to face each other over two days of pool play. The second half of pool play will continue tomorrow morning – with challenge brackets regrouped in the evening, which will determine which flight each team will move onto.

Pool 1

Pool 1 concludes with two teams remaining undefeated in the tournament – A4 Volley 18-Purple and NPJ 18-1 Forefront. NPJ went to three in all of there matches while A4 Volley took charge and swept all three of their opponents.

PVA 18 ELITE went 2-1 on the day while NE Elite 181 Kpalie ended the first day of play with a 1-2 record. Two teams were unable to secure any victories – AVC/Mintonette A.81 Pass and NCVC Asics 18-1.

Pool 2

In pool 2, Top Select 18 Elite Blake from Florida swept away the competition, only dropping one set to Skyline 18 Royal on the day. Three teams finished the first day with a 2-1 record – Encore 18 Navy, Skyline 18 Royal and Miz LB 18 Rockstar. To round out the rest of the pool, Premier Nebraska 18 Gold and EC Power 18-Royal were not able to take away a match in the first day of play.

Pool 3

No teams in Pool 3 will come out undefeated in the tournament, with every team dropping at least one match on the first day.

Leading overall, based off set percentage is Tstreet 18-Troy with a 2-1 record on the day. Three other teams finished with 2-1 records – (in order of set percentage) CIA 18 Black, TAV 18 Black and H Skyline 18 Royal. MEVBA 18 Mizuno went 1-2 while OT 18 S Rox Red ended the day win-less.

Pool 4

In Pool 4, there were no teams that stayed unbeaten on the day, with MN Select 18-1, Rockwood Thunder 18 Mizuno, AZ Rev 18 Premier and A5 Mizuno 18-1 Bob each dropping one match, ending the day 2-1.

Rancho Valley 18 Premier ended with a 1-2 record while TIV 18 Mizuno Ben went without a win on the first day.

Pool 5

Two squads remain unbeaten in pool 5 with KC Power 18-1 holding a slight lead over Sky High-Adidas 18 Black with a 1.2296 to 1.1821 point ratio differential.

Aspire 18 Rox ended with a 2-1 record while Laguna Beach 18MS finished day one with a 1-2 record. At the bottom of the pack, ECJ 18 Elite and Asics Willowbrook 18 Gold each concluded the day without a win.

Pool 6

On the day, COAST 18-1 went undefeated without dropping a set on the day. AVC/Mintonette m.81 and Milw Sting 18 Gold each ended on a 2-1 record, with Milw Sting fighting in their final match of the day over Metro 18 Travel for a 27-25 third set win (12 points past the typical ending point of a match).

Club One AZ 18 Platinum and Metro 18 Travel each ended with 1-2 record while Tejas 18.1 didn’t record a match win on the day.
