American Annie Drews has joined Italian side SAB Volleyball Legnano In Italy’s Serie A2. The 23-year old Drews comes from Puerto Rico, where she spent the first two years of her professional career playing with Indias Mayaguez and Criollas de Caguas, which included winning a league title with the latter last season.

Drews was called up to the USA Volleyball Senior National Training camp after the conclusion of her club season, and earned a spot on the American team that swept their way to the 2017 Pan American Cup title, dropping only 3 sets in 7 games. Drews played in all 7 matches for Team USA in that tournament, including 1 starts against Argentina and Mexico where she scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, at outside hitter.

Drews is long and athletic at 6’4″ (193cm), which should play well in Serie A2 where she will have a size advantage against most teams. For example, on her new squad SAB, she will be the tallest player by 2 inches – tower over even the team’s middle blockers.

Drews played collegiately at Purdue in the United States, where in 2015 she was named an AVCA Second Team All-American.

She will join an SAB attack that includes Camilla Mingardi – who was the top scorer in Serie A2 last season by exactly 50 points – 596 points scored in 30 matches played (19.8/game, 5.18/set). Mingardi is under contract through next season. The team finished 3rd in Serie A2 last season with a 17-9 record.
