UCLA, Pepperdine Beach Turn Out Perfect 4-0 Records At East Vs. West

The East Meets West Tournament featured a strong lineup from each coast this weekend, forming one of the biggest competitions of the 2018 beach volleyball season.

From the East, LSU, Florida International, Florida State and TCU took on a top-5 ridden UCLA, USC, Pepperdine and Hawaii of the West.

The West coast overwhelmingly took the victory in the meet with Florida State and LSU winning the only matches for the East. UCLA and Pepperdine remained unbeaten throughout the weekend while USC and Hawaii finished with 3-1 records.

UCLA’s #5 pairing of Izzy Carey/Megan Muret finished the weekend with an undefeated record, being the only Bruin team to win all of their matches for the weekend. Also winning all of their matches for the weekend was USC’s #1 Abril Bustamante/Tina Graudina, UCLA’s #2 Deahna Kraft/Corinne Quiggle and Hawaii’s #2 Emily Maglio/Ka’iwi Schucht.

The biggest upset of the weekend came when LSU became the 6th program ever to defeat USC in a beach volleyball match. Dating back 6 years, the Trojans have been the dominant team on the sand and haven’t lost to many different schools along the way. This year, however, has been a bit of a slump for the team as they now have an 8-4 record on the year, with LSU being the first school that they have not seen defeat from in their past.
