UCSB’s Lindsey Ruddins Garners AVCA Player Of The Week

The AVCA has announced this week’s player of the week in UC Santa Barbara’s Lindsey Ruddins after her tumultuous week on the court, leading the squad to a 3-0 week. Ruddins is the second player this season, behind Florida’s Rachael Kramer to be named the Player of the Week that is not a senior. Both Ruddins and Kramer are sophomores on their respective teams.

This is the third big honor for Ruddins on the week, as she was named the Big West Player of the Week along with VolleyMob’s Player of the Week that were announced yesterday and earlier this morning. On the week, Ruddins averaged 6.64 kills per set while hitting at a .300 clip. Additionally, Ruddins picked up 3.18 digs per set.

Ruddins impressive week featured at least 20 kills in all three matches along with two double-doubles. Against UC Davis, Ruddins slammed down 26 kills on a .339 hitting performance with 15 digs, produced 27 kills and 16 digs for her seventh double-double of the season against Long Beach State. In the final match of the week for UC Santa Barbara, Ruddins recorded 20 kills, four digs and two blocks against CSUN.

UC Santa Barbara posted 143 kills on the week as a team, while Ruddins contributed over half of the team’s kills with 73 on the week.

Ruddins is the seventh player in UC Santa Barbara history to garner the award and the first since Rebecca Saraceno received the award on September 29, 2009.
