After posting a 27-9 2017 season, Northern Iowa has extended head coach Bobbi Petersen’s contract through December 31, 2024.

Petersen has led the Panthers to tremendous success over the past 18 seasons after being one of the best players in school history. Over the course of her career, Petersen has amassed a 461-141 record to rank 10th among active coaches with a .766 winning percentage. Additionally, she is one of four Missouri Valley Conference coaches to hit the 400 career-win mark.

The 2017 season saw the Panthers make their 21st NCAA Tournament, where they swept through Louisville in the first round but were downed by Minnesota in four to end their season. On the year, the Panthers took down four ranked opponents, including the eventual national champions, Nebraska early in the season.

The Panthers ranked #1 in four statistical categories following the 2017 season – kills per set (15.24), team assists (1,857), team digs (2,581) and team kills (1,997).

Academically, Petersen’s squads have been awarded the AVCA Team Academic Award in each of the past six seasons, with the 2017 team in line to win the award again as they compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.40 during the fall semester. In the past 12 seasons, the NCAA has recognized the top-10 percent of the Academic Progress Report, with Northern Iowa being named to the list in each of the years. In the past 12 years, the Panthers have earned a perfect score of 1,000, making them apart of 93 NCAA programs that have been honored in the top-10 percent over the past 12 years.

For next season, barring any transfers in the offseason, the Panthers will return all but red-shirt senior setter, Heather Hook.
