Following the reveal of the new court for the men’s basketball team in the Thomas & Mack Center in November, UNLV is now set to showcase its new court for the Cox Pavilion, home of the women’s basketball and volleyball squads.

It is the first time the women’s teams will have a brand new court to play on, as when the Cox Pavilion opened in 2001 the court from the adjacent TMC was moved to the Cox Pavilion.

“We are very happy that our women’s basketball and volleyball teams now have the opportunity to play on a new court that is representative of our wonderful and dynamic city,” said UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois. “With the previous court having been in use for over two decades it was time for a new playing surface for the Cox Pavilion and we are looking forward to its debut.”

Just as in the Thomas & Mack Center, the Cox Pavilion court design features an outline of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip’s skyline in a gray stain, along with the classic UNLV arch logo at center court, while the sidelines and baselines are painted in classic red.

“The court has a pop to it and it’s great to be on such a springy, sparkly new floor,” said Lady Rebel head coach Kathy Olivier. “It’s a big deal for our team to have a brand new court. The Las Vegas sign, the skyline, the whole look makes it a real honor to play on a court with this design representing Las Vegas.”

The Lady Rebels first practiced on the court Thursday afternoon, and will play their first game on the new surface this Saturday when they host Colorado State at 3 pm.

“We all love it,” said senior guard Brooke Johnson. “We love how it’s similar to the new court for the men, and how it represents Las Vegas. We know we are the first women’s team at UNLV to play on a brand new court and that gives us a lot of pride.”
