USA U21 Men And Women Main Draws Decided At Beach Trials

Right before the holidays began, the USA U21 Beach Volleyball Trials took place, crowing a women and men’s pair.

The two-day tournament took place from December 20-23 in Chula Vista, California.

The winners on the men and women’s sides will be the U.S.’s main draw for at the FIVB U21 World Championship in Nanjing, China from June 13-18, 2017. The coaches for the team will be Marcio Sicoli and Jose Loiola.

Women

The winner of the women’s bracket was No. 1 U.S. ranked team Mima Mirkovic/Kathryn Plummer. The pair won a tough three set battle over No. 3 Savannah Simo/Torrey Van Winden 2-1 (17-21, 21-14, 23-21).

The No. 2 ranked seed of Alexis Filippone/Megan Muret dropped their second round match to Simo/Van Winden in three, 2-1 (17-21, 21-15, 15-13).

Men

The No. 2 ranked Clay Messenger/Adam Wienckowski took the title on the men’s side in three, 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-6) over No. 10 Marcus Partain/Miles Partain.

No. 1 ranked Aidan Brown/Lucas Lassone had a BYE in their first round, facing Partain/Partain in their first match, losing 2-0 (21-15, 21-19).
