SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah volleyball team had four players register double-digit kill efforts while picking up another Pac-12 Conference win with a five-set victory (25-15, 23-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-9) over the Oregon State Beavers Saturday night at the Huntsman Center.

The Utes (15-6, 6-4) picked up its ninth win of the season when the match went to five sets and managed to snap a three-match home losing streak as well. Meanwhile, Utah also managed to defeat the Beavers (8-13, 1-9) for the third straight time at home.

Utah out-hit the Beavers .519 to .192 on the way to taking the first set 25-15. Junior Adora Anae led the Utes with four kills and a pair of service aces, while sophomore Berkeley Oblad added three kills for the home team. Utah registered a total of 15 kills to OSU’s nine and the Utes tallied four service aces to just a pair of aces for the Beavers.

Anae led the Utes with five kills in the second set, but Utah hit just .108 as a team and OSU managed to register 5.0 total team blocks on the way to take the frame 25-23. OSU led late in the set 23- 17 before a 4-0 run forced the Beavers to call a timeout. OSU won the next point and despite a kill from junior Tawnee Luafalemana, OSU managed to take the frame on the next point.

The Beavers took a 2-1 lead in the match after taking the third set 25-21. Utah traded points with OSU for the majority of the match until a 6-1 Beaver run pushed OSU’s lead to 19-13 and forced Utah to call a timeout. The Utes managed to get back within three points of OSU, down 22-19, following a service ace from sophomoreJessie Openshaw, but the Beavers closed out the set winning three of the next five points.

After leading early, 5-3, Utah would see its lead erased following a 7-1 run form the Beavers. OSU would lead throughout the majority of the set until a 4-0 run gave Utah a 20-18 lead. Both teams would trade points back-and-forth until a block from Oblad and sophomore Emma Kirst, along with a kill from Obald gave the Utes a 27-25 win to notch the match up at 2-2. Junior Eliza Katoa led the Utes with five kills in the set and Utah managed to hit .372 in the frame as a team.

Utah opened the decisive fifth set with a 4-2 run, but OSU would comeback to tie things up at 5-5 before a 3-1 run put the Utes back up 8-6. After changing sides of the court, the Beavers would get the next point, but Utah countered with another 3-1 run to take an 11-8 lead. OSU again got the next point, but it would prove to be the last as Utah closed out the frame with four straight points. Oblad’s block sealed the frame 15-9 and Utah went on to pick up the win in five sets.

Anae posted her ninth 20-kill effort of the season – the 21st of her career – with a match-high 26 kills and a .365 hitting percentage. Luafalemana notched 12 kills, while Oblad and Katoa followed with 10 kills each.

Anae logged in her 15th double-double of the season, adding 10 digs on the night and freshman Bailey Choyposted her seventh double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Brianna Doehrmann led the way in the back row with a new season/career-high 16 digs on the night.

Openshaw, who matched Choy with 30 assists on the night, also equaled a career-high with her team-leading three service aces on the evening. Luafalemana led the way with five total blocks, while Olbad and Kirst contributed four blocks each.

Utah hit .308 as a team, eclipsing the .300 hitting percentage mark for the seventh time this season. The Utes are undefeated on the year when hitting at least .300 or better.

The Utes will be back on the road next weekend, heading to Los Angeles to take on both UCLA and USC. The Utes will face the Bruins next Friday, Oct. 28, and then wrap-up play at USC on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Oregon State:

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Lanesha Reagan and Sam Rouleau each posted double doubles as the Oregon State volleyball team pushed 20th-ranked Utah to five sets Saturday night, losing a seesaw battle at the Huntsman Center.

Set scores were 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-27 and 9-15.

Reagan posted 12 kills – second to Mary-Kate Marshall‘s 15 – with 11 digs. It’s her second consecutive weekend with a double double after doing so against USC, and her team-leading seventh of the season.

Rouleau, meanwhile, picked up her second double double in as many night as the Beavers played a rare back-to-back schedule in Pac-12 Conference play. The junior transfer recorded 23 assists and 10 digs against the Utes.

Oregon State saw four players finish in double figures, with Kory Cheshire (11) and Lila Toner (10) joining Marshall and Reagan. Marshall had four digs and two blocks, while Cheshire posted four digs and four blocks. Toner tied Serena Bruin for the team lead with five blocks, pitching in with four digs as well.

The match, which was the Beavers’ first to go five sets since Sept. 10, saw Oregon State take a 2-1 lead. The Utes claimed a first set that saw the lead change hands just once. But the Beavers were resilient, claiming set two. Utah never held the lead in set two and the Beavers won it after hitting .212 to the Utes’ .108.

Set three also went to the Beavers, albeit without as much ease. Oregon State hit .389 during the frame, and held off Utah after the lead was tied seven times.

Three lead changes were seen in set four, and unfortunately, the Utes held it last in their 27-25 victory. OSU hit .267 during the frame, with Utah posting a .372 mark.

The match was fairly even statistically, with both teams recording nine blocks and Utah barely out-serving Oregon State, 8-to-7. The Utes also recorded 66 digs to 57 for the Beavers.

Kayla Ellis led the Beavers with 16 digs, while McKenna Hollingsworth posted an OSU-best 26 assists. Hollingsworth was just shy of back-to-back doubles, finishing with seven digs.
