UTSA’s Marijeta Runjic Earns First C-USA Weekly Honor Of 2017

For the first time this season, UTSA has earned a weekly Conference USA honor in Marijeta Runjic who was named as this week’s Offensive Player of the Week. Also being selected for awards are Western Kentucky’s Sydney Engle and North Texas’ Karley York and Barbara Teakell.

Offensive Player of the Week

Marijeta Runjic – UTSA – senior

Runjic garnered her first C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honor of the 2017 season after posting a pair of double-doubles. Against UAB, Runjic recorded a career-best 27 kills and a match-best 19 digs along with four blocks to help the Roadrunners fight to a five-set win. Later, Runjic posted 19 kills, 12 digs and four blocks in the team’s win over Louisiana Tech.

Runjic averaged 5.11 kills, 3.44 digs and 5.72 points per set.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sydney Engle – WKU – senior

Engle picks up her fifth Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting 3.14 points, 2.86 digs, 2.43 kills, 1.29 assists and 0.71 blocks per set. Over the weekend, Engle posted a perfect reception feat with 19 receptions and no errors.

Setter of the Week

Karley York – North Texas – junior

Over the team’s two matches, York dished out 111 assists with back-to-back 50-assist matches. With the big setting weekend, York becomes the sixth North Texas setter to reach 2,000 career assists (2,074) and the 11th to hand out 1,000 assists in a single season (1,032).

York also picked up 12 digs against Rice and 14 digs versus Southern Mississippi to pick up her third-straight double-double.

Freshman of the Week

Barbara Teakell – North Texas – freshman

On the week, Teakell posted an average of 4.22 kills per set. Against Rice, Teakell posted a career-best 21 kills for her second 20-kill performance in three matches. Additionally, Teakell put down another 17 kills against Southern Mississippi while averaging a .366 hitting clip for the week. Teakell added 18 digs against Rice for a double-double, making it her third straight.
