The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s volleyball program made an addition to its roster with Sara Kartalovic, a transfer from State College of Florida. Kartalovic will be an immediately eligible junior in 2017 and have two years left of play.
A 6’4″ right side originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Kartalovic spent her past two seasons with State College of Florida. She totaled 48 match appearances, 266 kills, 122 digs and 88 blocks. As a sophomore, she was a second-team all-conference pick after averaging 2.4 kills per set.
“Sara has played this right side hitter position most of her life,” UW-Milwaukee head coach Susie Johnson said in the Panthers’ release of the signing. “She started as a young age in Serbia and she has the physicality of a true right side at 6-4. She is very confident and comfortable in her blocking. She has experience from her junior college, so we’re excited about the impact she can make right away for us.”
Kartalovic is just one of two right sides on the UW-Milwaukee roster for 2017. The other opposite is Jenna Miller, an incoming freshman who can also play middle blocker. Henceforth, Kartalovic is the most experienced right side on the roster.
In 2016, UW-Milwaukee scored a winning season with a 15-13 record as they collected a 9-7 Horizon League conference record. Including last season, the Panthers have now had winning records in three of the past four seasons.
