Last month, the 2017 Bolivarian Games took place in Santa Marta, Colombia from November 12-23, with Venezuela and the Dominican Republic taking the men’s and women’s volleyball titles.
On the men’s side of the competition, eight teams participated in the Bolivarian Games with Venezuela emerging victorious. Claiming the silver was Chile while the host country took the bronze medal.
Venezuela made a comeback in the finals to take down Chile to claim the title. The Venezuelan men’s squad fell 23-25 in the first set but turned things around in the second, going past the required 25 points in a 30-28 victory that swung the momentum in their favor. The third set was a blow out 25-9 with the Venezuelans closing out the championship with a 25-19 fourth set win.
For the women, the Dominican Republic took the top prize with Peru taking the silver medal. Colombia rounded out the top-three as the bronze medal winner.
The Dominican Republic took eight points on their way to the victory, winning against Colombia on the final day to secure the win. Peru took six points for second play, sweeping Venezuela on the final day of play while Colombia garnered four points for the bronze medal.
In all, Colombia was the most successful team in the competition with 460 total medals, blowing out second-placed Venezuela who contributed 292 medals.
