Following the team’s loss to Wixo LPR Piacenza, Vibo Valentia has decided to terminate the contract of the team’s head coach, Lorenzo Tubertini. Vibo Valentia has accumulated a 5-10 record so far this season and ranks 9th in the league with just nine points earned.
This has been a long time coming for Tubertini as Fillippo Callipo, the team’s president left the match early against Biosi Indexa Sora as they were losing badly to the lowest ranked team in the league. Below was Callip’s reaction following the loss:
I left the building because I saw them not playing, I saw how the first two sets went and then I could not take it any more, I preferred to go away. We were wrong all this year, I expected a playoff defeat (NOTE: as of now, the team is out of the playoff race). The team does not exist as a team, although on paper there are players of a certain game. At home we have never seen them (apart from a few flashes), there was no reaction in the field and even on the part of the coach on the bench, almost as if he did not believe it either. Tomorrow we will meet with the managers, Ferraro and Prestinenzi, to understand whether to make any decisions. Even the public was disaffected, on Christmas we were used to filling the building. A team that is not a team, maybe some players took this season as if it were a holiday
The team is home to American Ben Patch, who has been an on-and-off fixture for the team this season.
“We decided, by mutual agreement with Tubertini, to interrupt our relationship. We do not charge particular errors to Tubertini for the accumulated defeats, but the negative results require us to shake the environment,” said Callipo.
Now, the team will be left in the hands of Antonio Valentini who was previously the team’s second coach. Callipo is hoping that the change in coach will spark something within the team to turn the season around in the second half of the season.
