The Vietnam Volleyball Federation has announced the field for its 2017 VTV women’s tournament. The 14th edition of the tournament will run from July 8th-15th in the northern Viatnamese city of Hai Duong, with a population of 400,000.

  • Japanese University Team
  • Suwon Club (Korea)
  • Indonesian
  • Vietnam U18
  • Vietnam National Team
  • Thailand U18

The tournament invites in teams from around the world, though predominantly Asia, every year in a tournament sponsored by Vietnam Television, VTV. Unlike prior years, where this was a 6 team tournament, the field has been expanded to 7 teams for 2017 with the inclusion of both the senior and U18 National Teams from Vietnam.

The tournament has fluctuated in significance throughout the years. Vietnam has won the tournament itself 4 times, with other winners coming from China, Japan, Thailand, and in 2008 from North Korea. American teams have participated in the past – a squad from St. John’s University took silver in 2007.

The Japanese University team, which will be preparing for the upcoming Summer Universiade (World University Games), is expected to be the top competition for the Vietnam senior National Team. That squad includes several members of the Asian Women’s U23 Championships team that won their first-ever title in May.
