The second week of the 2017 men’s season has concluded, where outside hitter Kyle Ensing led #4 Long Beach State (5-1) to a pair of victories over Cal-Baptist and #5 Hawaii.
Ensing started the week against Cal-Baptist with eight kills, five digs and seven blocks – helping the Beach to a four set victory.
“Kyle just continues to get so good at the net as a blocker,” said Alan Knipe. “Whether we had him block on the left or the right, he got into a pretty good rhythm tonight.”
The Beach handed #5 Hawaii their first loss of the season on Wednesday night. Ensing recorded his first double-double of the season to Hawaii, with 24 kills on a .404 hitting percentage and 10 kills, also adding four blocks.
“Kyle was an enormous part of our success as the match went on,” said Knipe. “He was a handful from the front row and the back. He has the ability to paly like King Kong and he looked like it in the last three sets. I was impressed with his performance, but not surprised.”
Ensing is coming off a strong freshman campaign, where he put down 354 kills (3.08/set) and 229 digs (1.99/set). Also adding 23 aces and 79 blocks. He finished the season with five double-doubles and double-digit kills in 20 matches.
