The playoffs stage of the 2017 CEV European Women’s Championships have officially begun, with Belarus and the Czech Republic set to battle each other after making it through the pool play phase of the tournament. The winner of the match will move on to the quarterfinals of the tournament that are set to begin on September 29 in Baku.
Belarus came out of the preliminary round of the competition with two wins one over hosts, Georgia in three-sets and a five-set battle against Croatia on day one of the competition. They dropped their day two match against Italy, who won the pool with a 3-0 record, advancing straight to the quarterfinals. The team has used a balance of players to keep them steady throughout the tournament, including Tatsiana Markevich, Nadzeya Smirnova, Aksana Kavalchuk and Anzhelika Barysevich.
For the Czech Republic, they barely scrapped their way through the pool play phase, winning over Belgium on day two in four, but losing the other two against Serbia in three and the Netherlands in four. Veronika Struskova has been a solid choice for the Czech so far along with Helena Havelkova.
