After escaping the playoffs stage, Belarus moves on to battle against a strong Serbian squad in the quarterfinals of the 2017 CEV European Women’s Championships.
It took Belarus five-sets to make it to the quarterfinal round over the Czech Republic, but they held on and downed the Czech. Now they will go up against a heavy hitting Serbian squad that has had a fairly successful summer. Anzhelika Barysevich has led Belarus to the quarterfinals with 52 points scored. Belarus will need to step up their game against Serbia to have a shot at the semifinals.
Serbia dominated their pool play phase of the competition, starting things off with a 3-0 start and a bye in the playoffs round and straight into the quarterfinals. Tijana Boskovic has been the leading force for the Serbian squad, putting down 60 points so far. Boskovic was a slow start at this summers 2017 World Grand Prix, where she didn’t see much playing time until the final weekend and during the finals, where she unleashed. Now, Serbia needs to rely on Boskovic to push forward in the competition.
