2017 FIVB WORLD BEACH TOUR – RIO DE JANIERO

The reigning Olympic champions, Bruno Schmidt and Alison Cerutti came out strong at the FIVB World Tour event in Rio – the place they won their gold medal. The pair was able to successfully take down the Polish duo of Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak in the finals for the victory.

Schmidt explains that the match was at a high caliber the entire match, making it a difficult win for the Brazilians. The energy was up at the Rio stadium as the Brazilian duo was going up for the top prize.

Cerutti tells the FIVB about the difficulty of being an ‘older’ pairing, as the Polish team had two younger players, “They don’t even stretch, they don’t feel pain. I was that age before.” Today, at the age of 32, Cerutti said he felt like a grandfather out on the court.

The Polish pair plays with no pressure, according to Cerutti. They are a skilled team that was able to make the smart plays on offense.

The crowd was a factor in the match, which helped the Brazilian pair in the match – along with many Polish service errors.
