STANDINGS
CONFERENCE RECAP
Saturday featured a pair five set thrillers in WCC play. In Portland, San Diego took the first two sets and then ran away from the Pilots in the fifth. In Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount rallied from two sets down to defeat Santa Clara. Elsewhere in the conference, #1 BYU swept Gonzaga on the road and Pepperdine swept San Francisco at home.

- The Toreros got 13 kills, 17 digs and 3 blocks from outside hitter Roxie Wibline. San Diego also got 11 kills apiece from middle blockers, Addie Picha and Megan Jacobsen.
- Middle blocker Katie Barker paced Portland with 14 kills. The Pilots also got 11 kills from middle blocker Liz Reich and 10 kills from outside hitter Izzy Guzik.
- San Diego hit .215 as a team and held Portland to .170.
HOW IT HAPPENED
San Diego grabbed the lead early in the first set and did not trail again. A 4-0 spurt by the Toreros gave them a 12-5 lead at the midway point of the set. San Diego kept up the pressure and ran away with the set, 25-12.
In the second set, it was Portland that grabbed the early advantage. The Pilots led 7-5 early, but San Diego rallied to tie the set at 15 apiece. From there, the Toreros reeled off a 5-2 run to go in front 20-17. San Diego closed out the set with a 3-0 spurt, to take the set, 25-20.
Portland took control early in the third and then held off San Diego, 25-19 to cut the deficit to two sets to one.
The fourth set was back and forth, but Portland seized control with an 8-2 run to take a 23-19 lead. The Pilots then held off San Diego, 25-20.
In the fifth, it was all San Diego. The Toreros jumped in front 6-2 and then ended the match on a 6-0 run to take the match, 15-4.
Toreros start strong then have to weather a Portland storm in the second half of the match.

- BYU moves to 22-0 (12-0 WCC); Gonzaga drops to 6-16 (4-8 WCC)

- BYU was led by outside hitter Roni Jones-Perry, who tallied 18 kills and (.484) and 8 digs. The Cougars also got 11 kills (.625) from middle blocker Heather Gneiting.
- Gonzaga got 13 kills from outside hitter Sarah Penner. Fellow outside hitter Kennedy Croft added 9 kills and 9 digs for the Bulldogs.
- BYU hit .350 as a team and held Gonzaga to .228.

- Pepperdine hit .305 for the match and limited San Francisco to just .068

- The Lions got 25 kills from opposite hitter Sara Kovac. Middle blocker Emma Johnson notched 12 kills and outside hitter Savannah Slattery added 11 for LMU.
- Outside hitter Michelle Shaffer led the way for Santa Clara with 17 kills and 7 digs.
- LMU hit .313 in the match while Santa Clara hit .242.
