WKU Set For First Home Conference USA Matches

Returning to the friendly confines of Diddle Arena for the first time in nearly three weeks, WKU Volleyball is set to host its first Conference USA tilts of the 2017 campaign. Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee are heading to Bowling Green for the Friday and Sunday matches as the Lady Toppers open a four-match stretch on The Hill.

Currently on an 11-match win streak, WKU Volleyball will look to extend its winning ways another weekend. Additionally, the Lady Toppers own a 27-match win streak over all Conference USA opposition including regular season and tournament play, not to mention an active 45-match win streak against league opponents inside Diddle Arena.

Friday night’s 6 p.m. CT matchup with the Lady Techsters marks the 19th meeting all-time between the sides as WKU owns an 11-7 advantage in the series. The Red and White have claimed the past six meetings against Louisiana Tech, dating back to the 1999 season.  LA Tech returns nine of 14 letterwinners from last year’s 13-17 campaign including three starters.

Louisiana Tech enters the weekend with a 5-10 record on the season after dropping its C-USA opener last weekend to Rice, 3-1. The lone common opponent between the Lady Techsters and WKU is Saint Louis, a squad that the Red and White swept while LA Tech dropped the decision 3-1.

The first of two 2017 meetings with the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders is slated for a noon first serve on Sunday. WKU leads the all-time series 43-16 over its rival and has been victorious in the eight most recent matches. Under new direction with first-year head coach Chuck Crawford at the helm, the Blue Raiders return five letterwinners from last season’s 5-24 squad.

Middle Tennessee enters the weekend with a 4-12 overall record and a 0-2 reading in conference play. The Blue Raiders will head to Houston, Texas, to begin weekend play at Rice before heading up to Bowling Green. Both MTSU and WKU have faced Belmont in Nashville, Tenn., this season. Middle Tennessee dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bruins while the Lady Toppers swept the hosts.

Weekend promotions include free commemorative championship banners for the first 100 fans to Friday night’s match and free admission to Sunday’s match when fans bring in a church bulletin or announcements. Sunday’s match will also feature a red jersey raffle that all fans can enter to win.
