Last night, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers downed Austin Peay in three sets and hit a school-record .549 in the match. Setter Jessica Lucas guided the team to the school-record, dishing out 32 assists while adding eight kills and six digs on the night.

“We knew we had to come out ready to play from the start,” said Lucas. Austin Peay is ranked in the top-70 of RPI, making the win over the squad a big one for the Toppers.

“Our passers are amazing, I think they give me a three-set almost every time and our hitters are amazing in this as well,” said Lucas about the school-record hitting percentage.

Head coach Travis Hudson expressed his worry about how Austin Peay is an aggressive serving team but thought that the passers handled the strong serve well on the night.

“I thought that we handled the ball really well tonight on first contact and when you do that and have an All-American setter, you’ll put yourself in a pretty good position to score and we did that for most of the night,” said Hudson.

Over the year, many different players have played their role for the Toppers, with nights being that Alyssa Cavanaugh carries the team while Rachel Anderson took the game into her hands against Austin Peay with 13 kills on a .800 hitting percentage. On serve receive for the night, the Toppers committed just one error and allowed just two aces for the match, while contributing five aces themselves.
