WKU’s Cavanaugh Earns Third C-USA Offensive Player Of The Week

Western Kentucky’s Alyssa Cavanaugh has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Also being honored in this week’s C-USA awards are Rice’s Grace Morgan and Madison McDaniel along with Florida Atlantic’s Sydney Nemtuda.

Offensive Player of the Week

Alyssa Cavanaugh – WKU – senior

Cavanaugh was instrumental for the Toppers this week in helping them achieve their 19th straight win, which is tied for the longest streak in the nation. For the week, Cavanaugh posted 39 kills for an average of 6.17 kills per set on a .545 hitting clip. Additionally, Cavanaugh has helped WKU to 18 three-set wins this season which is the most in the country this season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Grace Morgan – Rice – sophomore

Morgan put up a total of 23 blocks on the weekend for an average of 2.3 blocks per set. In Rice’s five-set victory over UTSA, Morgan posted a double-double of 13 blocks, a new career-best, and 13 kills. In the team’s second five-set win over UTEP Morgan posted yet another double-double of 10 blocks and 15 kills.

Over the course of the team’s 10 sets for the week, Morgan averaged 2.8 kills and 2.3 blocks per set.

Setter of the Week

Madison McDaniel – Rice – senior

McDaniel has earned her second setter of the week honor producing 85 assists, 36 digs and 11 blocks on the week. In the two matches, McDaniel recorded double-doubles and eclipsed the 3,000 career assist mark to move into sixth place in program history. Against UTSA, McDaniel dished out 40 assists, 19 digs and six blocks while posting 45 assists, 17 digs and five blocks against UTEP.

Freshman of the Week

Sydney Nemtuda – Florida Atlantic – freshman

Nemtuda helped Florida Atlantic to a 2-0 weekend posting her third ever double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs while posting nine kills and eight digs against Louisiana Tech. On the week, Nemtuda averaged 3.25 kills and 2.25 digs per set.
