GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Closing out a three-match road trip, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (11-11, 3-5 SEC) fell in three sets to the No. 10 Florida Gators (17-2, 7-1 SEC) on Friday night in Gainesville.

It was a tough night for the Dogs, as State was unable to find its rhythm against the nation’s 10th-ranked squad. MSU would open the match on a high note, pushing out to a three-point lead at 8-5. However, the Gators would take control behind a 12-1 run. From there the home team would only allow three more points from the Dogs, as UF took the first set 25-12.

The second set remained tight until the midway point of the frame. State had drawn within one, down 11-10, when the Gators reeled off a 6-0 run to create the distance they needed. UF would go on to take the last seven points of the set to grab a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-13 score.

MSU was able to slow down the match’s pace in the third set, but it could not stop the Gators. Florida used a series of mini runs to create enough space, while fighting off a late MSU rally, to take the final set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.

Emily Hill led the Dogs with 9 kills on the night, while Evie Grace Singleton tallied 8 andChelsea Duhs earned 7. Blossom Sato and Riley Duzenack each racked up 13 assists on the night, while Cheyenne Spell had 15 digs.

A trio of Bulldogs led the squad’s defensive effort, as Jazmyne Johnson, Jelena Vujcinand Bali Leffall-Young each earned 2 blocks.

“That was one of the nation’s best teams out there tonight and you have to commend Florida for playing one of their best matches of the year,” MSU coach David McFatrichsaid. “We showed some strong moments, especially in the third set, but weren’t able to put it all together. Now our sights are set on getting back home and getting a win against Tennessee.”

State will return home to close out the weekend, hosting the Tennessee Volunteers (13-7, 3-4 SEC) on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Newell-Grissom. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPNU, with Melissa Lee and Jennifer Hoffman on the call. The contest is a rematch of the 2016 SEC opener for the Dogs, when they swept the Vols in Knoxville.
