The final round of qualifying for the 2019 European Men’s Volleyball Championship tournament kicked off this Wednesday with 13 games. Here is a recap of the day’s action:

- Macedonia’s Nikola Gjorgiev dropped 42 points in his team’s win against Hungary
- Austria’s Paul Buchegger had 5 aces against Croatia
- Israel’s Viacheslav Atchkala had 7 blocks against Latvia
- As many as 1,100 spectators packed into Futsal Arena in Chisinau, Moldova. This was the first international Volleyball match that the people of Moldova have seen on home soil in nine years
Quote of the Day
Iceland is unranked in FIVB’s senior rankings, so it’s not a big surprise that the Icelandic team will have a tough time contending in the tournament. This much was shown in its game against Slovakia, in which Iceland dropped a set 25-7. Here is how the team’s coach reacted:
“We were nervous in the first set, some of my players come from small villages of five hundred people and this is the first experience of high-level volleyball for them. But in the second and third set our game was better so I can see the progress.” – Iceland’s coach Christophe Achten
