The bracket for the 2017 West Coast Conference (WCC) Beach Volleyball Championship has been released with the conclusion of in-conference regular-season play on Tuesday. The tournament will begin at 9AM on Friday, April 21, and run through the championship games on Saturday afternoon.
The tournament will be hosted in Santa Monica, California, and feature all 7 of the conference’s teams.
The bracket is a double-elimination tournament, with losing teams having the opportunity to play their way back into the championship game. A team that wins out through to the championship game would then have two chances to beat the team that advances through the loser’s bracket.
National #3 Pepperdine, as the top seed in the tournament, receives a bye from the first round. They will play the winner of 4th-seeded Pacific and 5th-seeded Portland for their opener.
2nd-seeded St. Mary’s plays 7th-seeded San Francisco in their opener. San Francisco has not won a match this season, and lost their head coach last week when she was hired by Iowa’s indoor team as their new associate head coach.
Pepperdine, the heavy favorites and defending champions, could take the title with as few as 4 victories. They are undefeated in the WCC this season, but haven’t player the conferences 2nd-seed St. Mary’s.
