4-time AVCA All-American Deja McClendon has joined the new-look University of Louisville staff as a volunteer assistant coach. McClendon was a part of two NCAA Champion teams as a player at Penn State, in 2010 and 2013, and was named an AVCA All-American in each of her 4 college season – include a 1st-team member in 2011 as a sophomore. In 2010, the AVCA named her the Division I Freshman of the Year.

McClendon is part of a total refresh of the Louisville staff under new head  coach Dani Busboom Kelly, who took over for Kentucky volleyball legend Anne Kordes after her resignation late last year. The school has already announced Dan Meske as associate head coach and Kolby O’Donnell as a full-time assistant.

McClendon is currently playing professionally in Poland, where she’s been since  2014 first with ATOM Trefl Sopot and most recently with Tauron MKS Dabrowa Gomicza. The club announced earlier this year that a knee injury is ending her season. Without her, the club was soundly defeated 3-0 by Fenerbahce Istanbul in the CEV Champions League.

Louisville finished the 2016 season with a 12-18 record, including 7-13 in the ACC. That placed them 10th out of 15 teams in the league.
