6 Spots Clinched for 2017 U18 Girls’ World Championship

A total of 6 teams have locked up their spots for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championships in Argentina. The championships will be held form August 17th-27th.

Brazil and Peru, as the top two teams out of the hosting South American CSV region, are the latest to lock up their spots after August’s U18 continental tournament. They’ll join the automatically-qualified hosts from Argentina as 3 of the 4 teams qualified through to the World Championships. One spot is remaining and up for grabs at the Pan American Cup in March.

March and into early April will decide the remained of the qualifying teams. So far, 6 are already assured of trips to Argentina:

  1. Egypt (CAVB-Africa)
  2. Dominican Republic (NORCECA – North America/Caribbean/Central America)
  3. United States (NORCECA – North America/Caribbean/Central America)
  4. Brazil (CSV – South America)
  5. Peru (CSV – South America)
  6. Argentina (Hosts)

Still left to be selected are 1 African team, 2 NORCECA teams, 1 South American team, plus all 4 teams from Asia and all 6 teams from Europe. A summary of the remaining qualifying events are below.

2017 will be the 15th edition of the event that launched in 1989. Italy are the defending champions, while China has claimed the title a total of 4 times – more than any other country.
