Club Iowa/Cedar Falls High School middle hitter Grace Burken has committed to play college volleyball at Wichita State. Burken is a high school junior and will join the Shockers in the fall of 2018.
Burken was named to the Iowa State Championship Class 5-A (largest division) Second Team last season after leading her team to the state championship game. Cedar Falls put 2 other juniors on the All-Tournament First Team, with Taylor Lynch (Illinois State commit) and Tayan Mahi (Norhtern Iowa commit) both returning, along with Burken, for a team that was 37-4 last season and will be the class 5A favorites next fall.
In that state tournament, Burken led all players in class 5A with a .525 hitting percentage – one of only two players to hit over .400 in the tournament. She had 30 kills (5th) and also averaged a block-per-set in 9 sets played in the tournament.
Burken checks in at 6’2″ tall – meaning she’ll fit right in with a tall Wichita State front line. Wichita State will have 2 middle blockers graduate after next season, including Abbie Lehman, who had 2.6 kills/set last season and led the team from the middle (among qualifiers) with a .384 hitting percentage.
Excited to announce that Grace Burken (17Black) has committed to Wichita State! We are so excited for you! Go Shockers! @amazing_gracie5 pic.twitter.com/2x5OSfqtVF
