Kansas volleyball head coach Ray Bechard has hired former setter Maggie Anderson ’16 to his staff as the director of volleyball operations, effective immediately.
Anderson rejoins the Kansas volleyball program after a five-year playing career from 2012 to 2016, in which she helped the Jayhawks to 130 victories, a berth in the 2015 Final Four and the 2016 Big 12 Conference title.
“It’s a thrill when you have the opportunity to bring someone back like Maggie, who is so passionate for this program,” Bechard said. “She is already invested in KU volleyball at a high level because she spent five years as a student-athlete here. She really loves this place. I think she couldn’t have asked for a better experience here and now she gets an opportunity to affect our program in other ways moving forward.”
Anderson will help with the day-to-day operations of the program, including but not limited to travel arrangements, managing schedules, organizing summer camps and K Club relations.
“My excitement is at max level right now,” Anderson said. “It was a dream of mine to be on staff at KU since my junior year in college and it’s great to see that become a reality. It makes the job a lot easier because I have gone through the student-athlete experience as a player. To be back and working with this staff again – it’s a dream come true.”
The Lincoln, Nebraska, native was a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team during her career at Kansas. Anderson graduated in December 2016 with a degree in supply chain management from the School of Business. She returns to KU after full-time experience as a corporate recruiter.
“She’ll be involved in so much with our program, but what I think she should effectively do is allow the coaching staff to really concentrate on coaching and recruiting,” Bechard added. “We are extremely thankful for Dr. Sheahon Zenger and our administration for seeing a need for our program and what she can do. She will take a ton of work off the desk of our coaches.”
