Brothers Georgi Bratoev and Valentin Bratoev have signed a contract to join the Bulgarian SuperLeague team Neftohimik 2010. That makes at least 4 major additions for the team that won last year’s Bulgarian National Cup and SuperCup titles.
The brothers, both members of Bulgaria’s National Team, are a setter (Georgi) and outside hitter (Valentin), respectively. Both players stand 6’8″ (2.02m) tall, and Georgi is known to be the higher leaper, in spite of their respective positions. They have signed one-year deals with the team.
Also joining the team are Levan Kalandadze and Teodor Salparov. Salporov, a libero, spent last season with Zenit Kazan of the Russian league and played his last game for them in the Champions League final and has served as Bulgaria’s starting libero in this week’s European Championship.
The team finished 4th in the Bulgarian league last year with a 16-6 record – 4 losses behind PMS CSKA.
CSKA is the only club from Bulgaria that earned an invite to this upcoming year’s Champions League, though with the improvements to Neftohimik, the league could become a two-team invitee in the future.
