MANILA, Phillipines – Adamson University outside hitter Jema Galanza suffered a gruesome injury on a blocking attempt on Monday against College of St. Benilde. Galanza was rushed to the hospital with what was originally thought to be a broken ankle.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen,” Galanza’s coach Air Padda said after the match. “Her ankle was completely separated. I think she is done for the season.”

The Lady Falcons won the match via sweep (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) to qualify for the Group B semifinals at the Premeir Volleyball league Collegiate Conference.

In an update Wednesday, it was announced the Galanza suffered a tibiotalar dislocation, a much less severe injury which leaves hope for a return.

“With proper rehab, she should be okay to play in 12 weeks. Competely, maybe in 16 weeks,” Dr. Edgar Eufemio told Akari Sports.

Galanza’s ankle was reset 30 minutes after the injury and after an MRI doctors will decide further treatment, which may include PRP injections to speed up the healing process.
