College of Charleston middle blocker Krissy Mummey, Northeastern libero Gabrielle Eyl and Hostra outside hitter Ivania Ortiz were tabbed as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Week honorees.
Mummey registered 3.67 kills per set, while hitting at a .595 clip with 37 errorless swings in College of Charleston’s wins over Towson and Delaware en route to CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Hudson, Ohio, native also notched 1.17 blocks per set in the sweeps. The senior opened the weekend with 14 kills and a .500 hitting effort against Towson, then followed it with an 8-for-9 effort, an .889 hitting clip and five blocks against Delaware.
Eyl earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week nods after notching 5.15 digs per set as Northeastern posted wins over William & Mary, James Madison and Elon last week. The Boulder, Colorado, native downed 17 kills in a sweep of William & Mary, then followed with 29 against James Madison and 21 against Elon. Eyl also moved into fourth on Northeastern’s all-time dig list with 1,499 as she lifted the Huskies to a 7-0 mark in league action.
Ortiz grabbed her second Rookie of the Week honor (also Sept. 4) after registering 22 kills, 15 digs and three blocks in wins over Elon and William & Mary. The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native tallied five kills, seven digs and two blocks against Elon and added 17 kills and eight digs against William & Mary. Ortiz averaged 2.75 kills and 1.88 digs per set on the weekend.
