The FIVB and WADA have released a statement allowing Murilo Endres to return to the volleyball courts, according to the team’s official Instagram page. Murilo was suspended in May, after testing positive for furosemide, a diuretic and masking agent. Counter-testing showed that the banned substance found in his blood sample stemmed from medicine contamination and not from intentional use, so WADA recalled its punishment. Still, Murilo will have to wait until December 9 to make his official season debut, as he still has to ride out the rest of his automatic suspension due to WADA’s strict liability principles.
Murilo took to social media to express gratitude and happiness for the end of what he described as nightmarish times. He also confirmed that once he does return, he will play the libero position for SESI/SP, and not his usual role of an opposite hitter. SESI/SP, who currently sits in 2nd place of Superliga’s standings, welcomed back its star with open arms:
As a member of Brazil’s national team, Murilo won the following titles:
- FIVB World League (2004-2009; 2009, 2010 [MVP])
- FIVB Grand Champions Cup (2005, 2009)
- FIVB World Championship (2006, 2010)
He also came very close twice to winning an Olympic gold medal with Brazil, as he took home silvers in Beijing’s and London’s games, the latter with an MVP campaign.
