Missouri State senior outside hitter Lily Johnson highlights the 2017 Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Johnson has been named the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I volleyball.
A cell and molecular biology major with a 3.96 GPA, Johnson was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the third straight season, is a four-time All-MVC selection and a four-time all-Midwest Region honoree by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Johnson is the first player to lead the MVC in kills in four consecutive seasons, finishing the year with averages of 4.52 kills and 3.91 digs per set with 40 aces and 51 total blocks. The senior outside hitter from Wildwood, Mo., ranks second nationally with 574 total kills and 646.5 total points.
Johnson is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® selection, capping off her career by headlining the first team after earning second team honors in 2016.
The Academic All-America® Division I Volleyball team has three additional repeat performers – Ashley Evans (Purdue University), Jaelyn Keene (Illinois State University) and Haleigh Washington (Penn State University) – from last year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams. Evans was a second team honoree in 2016 and a third team selection in 2015, while Keene earned second team honors in 2016. Washington, a second team honoree in 2017, was named third team in 2016 and second team in 2015.
Of the 21 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team, 18 have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 14 student-athletes sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA. The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.98.
