According to reports from the Omaha World-Herald, former Ball State defensive specialist Grace Nelson is transferring to Creighton for 2018. Nelson will be a sophomore in the fall of 2018 with three years left of eligibility.
A 5’9″ DS/L, Nelson attended Elkhorn High School in Bennington, Nebraska. She was named to the Nebraska Prep All-State Third-Team as a senior with honorable mention honors coming as a sophomore and junior.
Last year as a freshman at Ball State, Nelson played in 75 sets and racked up 164 digs, 17 assists and nine aces. Her season high came against Bradley on September 1 when she recorded 15 digs.
The loss for Ball State drops their returning defensive specialists from four to three as they look to build on a 19-11 season in which they went 11-5 and finished third in the MAC.
Nelson becomes the second transfer landed by Creighton for 2018, with the other being former Rutgers setter Megan Sharkey. Both are enrolling for the spring semester and will be eligible this season. Nelson also joins the three other returning defensive specialists/liberos for the BlueJays roster.
The duo of newcomers will look to help keep Creighton at the top of the Big East and on the national scene as they are coming off of a 26-7 season in which they earned the #9 seed from the committee and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
