After a sucessful 2016-17 season with Jastrzębski Węgiel, Marcin Bachmatiuk decided to take a chance on the foreign market and closed a deal with Czech Republic’s Aero Odolena Voda. It turned out that the adventure wasn’t everything Bachmatiuk dreamed about, and he quickly returned to Poland, this time to Zaksa’s second team. In an interview to the Volleyball Zone, he talked about everything that went on during this process and his plans for the future (Siatka.org):
“Leaving Jastrzębski Węgiel, I was prepared to fall off my horse, but this horse turned out to be bigger than I thought. In the new team from the very beginning I was terrified by the approach of individual players to training. During the preparatory period, the environment was really miserable and lacked a team atmosphere.
The club did not behave professionally in relation to me. After signing, I was informed that the team wanted to change a clause in my contract, and if I did not agree, it would be terminated. I did not agree and decided to leave. Although later the club tried to convince me to change my mind, the subject was already finished. There was no atmosphere, no results, and my coach also played a role in this, as he, in my opinion, just poorly prepared us for the season. It is also worth noting that I was the second competitor who decided to terminate a contract with the team, and after me several more made the same decision. How does the transfer policy work for this team, I do not know, but I’m not interested in it, because I will not go back there for sure.
The gap between PlusLiga and the Czech Ekstraklasa is enormous. I experienced it on my own skin and even though I am a sentimental man and I like to remember everything that is nice, I would soon forget about my Czech adventure and focus only on playing in the second team of the Polish champion, Zaksa Strzelce Opolskie. I must admit that I was disappointed with the Czech club, because shortly after I left, I found on the official Aero Odolena Voda portal that the reason they game for my resignation was my poor sports performance. I do not agree with that, and I think that if anyone who followed the course of the Czech league saw me playing, they would agree with me.”
It is safe to assume that Bachmatiuk will soon be in a PlusLiga roster again.
