Destinee Hooker has just signed with Galatasaray Daikin in Turkey. The American opposite played in Brazil this past season for Minas Tenis Clube finishing third in the Brazilian Superliga. Galatasaray Daikin made it to the final four of the CEV Champions League and third in the Turkish National League. Despite a offered contract extension, Tatiana Kosheleva has declined to re-sign with Galatasaray Daikin. The Russian hitter was offered another year in Turkey even after suffering a knee injury and being unable to compete for the club.
Hooker was a star track and field athlete in addition to playing volleyball for the University of Texas. She was the 2006, 2007 and 2009 high jump NCAA champion, breaking the indoor high jump collegiate record. She was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2009.
Destinee Hooker has played professionally in many different countries including South Korea, Italy, Russia, China and Puerto Rico. Additionally she represented the USA in international competition between 2009 and 2012. During this tenure she helped the team to win the 2010 and 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix and 2011 NORCECA Championship. She was a key member of the 2012 Olympic Silver Medal winning team.
