Anna Holehouse Breaks Towson Career Record for Digs

Towson Tigers libero Anna Holehouse roared across a record-line in Friday’s 3-1 win over La Salle University. Her 30 dig performance in the win, which ties for 30th nationally for most digs in a 4-set match so far this season, gives her 222 this season, and 1,895 for her career. That hurdled her past the school record of 1,869 set by her former teammate Paige Sekerak from 2011-2014.

The two players overlapped in Holehouse’s first year at Towson, where she redshirted. Holehouse then took just 2 years to get to 1,000 digs, and by the end of her redshirt junior season in 2017 had already jumped to 1,673 digs – 2nd-most in program history.

She was well-ahead of record-setting pace in the category, but so far in 2018 has actually accelerated her defensive efforts, and is averaging 5.41/set (she averaged 4.77, 4.46, and 4.96 per set, respectively, in her first 3 years).

If she continues on her current season page, she would end her career with over 2,300 digs. That puts her within striking distance of the Colonial Athletic Association record, which currently belongs to Delaware’s Stephanie Barry, who had 2,401 from 2006-2009. Holehouse started the year ranked 10th in conference history, but has already climbed up to 8th.

It currently takes 2,406 career digs to crack the NCAA’s all-time top 25 in the category.
