Morehead State Sweeps Tennessee Tech for 350th OVC Win

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Back in action on the opening weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play, Morehead State volleyball takes down foe Tennessee Tech in straight sets. The Eagles (11-4, 2-0 OVC) swept the Golden Eagles (6-10, 0-2), taking the sets 25-17, 25-23, and 25-20. The victory marked the program’s 350th OVC victory, extending Morehead State’s OVC-record conference play win total.

Morehead State did what it did best and limited its opponent at the net, limiting the Golden Eagles to an .089 hitting percentage while blocking eight total shots. The Eagles held four of Tennessee Tech’s hitters to a sub .100 hitting percentage, including three hitters recording negative percentages. Senior middle blocker Maddie Fella paced the Eagles with six total blocks, turning back two shots in each set. Senior right-side hitter Jordan Jones turned away four total shots while redshirt senior middle blocker Jessie Wachtman blocked three total shots, including the team’s lone solo block.

Elsewhere defensively, the Eagles’ back row dug up 49 total balls. Freshman libero Allison Whitten led the Eagles with 16 digs, reaching double-digits in the category for the 12th time in 15 games this season. Eight of Whitten’s digs came in the final set as the Eagles held their opponent to a .053 hitting percentage in the set. Redshirt freshman Taylor Hodges added 10 digs, marking her fifth double-digit dig game this season.

Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier led the Eagles on the offensive end, slamming home 13 winners. Lohmeier committed just five errors in 27 swings, hitting .296 for the match. Fellow sophomore outside hitter Lauren Rokey added 12 kills to give Morehead State a pair of hitters with double-digit kills. Wachtman added eight kills on 16 swings, hitting .312 in the match. As a team, the Eagles hit .239, totaling 46 kills in 113 chances.

Redshirt sophomore setter Chandler Clark continued her great start to OVC play, dishing out 40 assists in the three-set match. The total marks the sixth time this year Clark has reached or exceeded 40 assists this season. The total also marks the first time she has reached the plateau in a three-set match.

Morehead State concludes its three-game, OVC-opening homestand Wednesday, hosting in-state rival Eastern Kentucky (3-11, 2-0). Match time from Wetherby Gym is set for 6 p.m. ET.
