It was an historic day for UCF volleyball in a couple of ways, not only did the program record its 1,000th victory with a four-set win over UConn, but senior libero Jordan Pingel surpassed the 2,000 digs mark, becoming the first player in school history to do so.
With her 2,000th save, Pingel became the school record holder for career digs, surpassing Meredith Murphy’s mark of 1,999 from 2009 to 2012. She totaled 25 digs in the match to boost her career tally to 2,004. Pingel is 375 digs behind SMU’s Morgan Heise on the American Athletic Conference career records list.
The Colorado Springs, Colorado, native pulled up 570 digs as a rookie in 2015, the second highest tally in school history, including 29 double-digit efforts and 14 matches with 20 or more saves.
As a sophomore, Pingel poured on 554 digs, including 32 double-digit performances, nine 20-plus dig efforts and her 1,000th career dig vs. USF on Nov. 11.
As a junior, the libero notched 541 digs, including 30 double-digit tallies and nine 20-plus dig matches.
Pingel started the season with 1,665 digs, 334 behind Murphy. Thus far in 2018, she has managed 17 double-digit efforts including 20 or more eight times.
In the UCF record books, Pingel boasts the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots on the program’s season digs list (570 in 2015, 554 in 2016 and 541 in 2017).

Head coach Todd Dagenais said the record, although lasting, is the least of the impact Pingel has had on the program.
“A lot of people don’t realize that it’s not just the 2,000 is where she’s the most valuable to us,” Dagenais said. “It’s her presence on the floor, in the huddle and in the locker room is where she makes the biggest impact. She is one of the few players that I have ever allowed to have veto power on the court to adjust or call something different from what I called. She shook me off today on a scheme, because she saw something that she wanted to do. It’s like having another coach on the court.”
"When we recruited Jo, we knew that we were getting something pretty special"
