She already leads the nation in scoring and in kills per set, but you can add a few more notes on Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson‘s resume – American Athletic Conference, Koch Arena and school record holder for kills in a match.

The redshirt junior outside hitter racked up 44 putaways as the Bearcats edged past Wichita State in five sets on Sunday. The tally accounted for more than half of the team’s 80 total kills and blew away the Cincinnati match record for kills (36 by Heather Augustine vs. Marquette, 11/22/91) and her own rally scoring era record of 35 set against Indiana on Sept. 14.

Even more impressive is that the Edina, Minnesota, native pounded down the kills while hitting at an efficient .404 clip (44 kills, 8 errors in 89 swings). Thompson also tacked on nine digs, two blocks, two assists and two aces for good measure.

For the season, Thompson has already racked up 502 putaways, notching double-digit efforts in all 20 of the team’s matches. She has posted less than 20 kills in just six of those and more than 30 in six, including Sunday’s outing.

The standout has hit .300 or better in 13 matches, .400 or better six times and .500-plus on two occasions.

Just last week, Thompson put her name in the American Athletic Conference record book as the all-time leader in points and kills.

In addition to her offense, Thompson has pulled up double-digit digs 10 times and served up 27 aces.

Behind her standout season, Cincinnati is 16-4 and 7-0 in AAC play.
