An expected overhaul of French side Poitevin has begun with the addition of 24-year old Jan Zimmermann, who will replace Eemi Tervaportti (who in turn is on his way to Poland). Zimmerman joins Poitevin from United Volley Rhein-Main in his domestic German league, who beat Poitevin in the CEV Cup quarterfinals.

Zimmermann played on Germany’s National Team when they won gold at the 2015 European Games in Baku – his first major test of international play. He’s spent his entire professional career in the German Bundesliga until this move to France.

He is one of 3 major losses for United Volley this offseason.  Fellow outside hitter Moritz Reichert is also headed to France, specifically to Tours VB – the winners of the CEV Cup, Europe’s second-highest competition behind the Champions League.

“To come here (to United) in 2015 was the best decision I could have made. I am glad to have been part of this incredible project – and who knows: you always see yourself twice in your life, “says Jan Zimmermann, speaking of a” team that has developed into friends ”

Reichert said that the decision to leave the club was very difficult: “I felt really comfortable with the Uniteds, but still decided to try something new.”

They leave along with captain Christian Dunnes, who was the 3rd-ranked player in the league last season at opposite. He will retire at the end of this season and join the administration of the Bundesliga.

“The successors are already ready,” United Volley manager Henning Wegter sayssays, “only formalities are still to be clarified. The concept will not change. We continue to focus on young and predominantly German talents, as well as experienced professionals as leading figures.”

Poitvein finished 8th in the French Ligue A last season, while Richert’s new club Tours finished 3rd in the regular season but was upset by Toulouse in the quarterfinals.
