Columbia 3, Trinidad & Tobago 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17)

Canada 3, Venezuela 2 (21-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-10)

Columbia and Canada moved on in the classification matches Friday. The Columbians made quick work of Trinidad and Tobago, while Canada had to rally from down 0-2 in the match to move on.

The teams will face Cuba and Argentina respectively for on Saturday with a shot at fifth and sixth place on the line.

Columbia 3, Trinidad & Tobago 0

Dayana Segovia managed 18 points to lead all scorers, as Columbia topped Trinidad & Tobago in nearly all facets of the game in a sweep to move on to the fifth through eighth place matches.

Columbia turned in more offense (40 kills to 31), outblocked the foe 9-6 and limited its errors to 17. T&T managed four aces, while allowing just three, but also was plagued with 23 errors.

Segovia had help in scoring from Valerin Carabali (9), Maria Margarita Martinez (8), Yeisy Soto (7) and Giselle Perez (7). Soto and Carabali tallied a team-best four blocks apiece.

Krystle Esdelle racked up 16 points for T&T, with 12 kills, three aces and a block. Sinead Jack, the top blocker of the tournament so far, added eight points, with four kills and four blocks.

Canada 3, Venezuela 2

Just call Canada the comeback kids. After dropping the first two sets, the Canadians found new life and bounced back to win three straight for the five-set victory.

The Canadians outscored Venezuela 108 to 99, thanks in part due to 10 blocks and six aces. Venezuela managed seven stuffs and five perfect serves.

Shainah Joseph notched a match-high 22 points, with 18 kills, three aces and a block, while Kyla Richey (18), Michaela Reesor (13) and Jennifer Cross (10) also aided the team’s effort. Richey and Cross managed three blocks apiece to lead the team, while Reesor added two blocks and two aces.

Luz Delfines and captain Desiree Glod scored 18 points apiece and had help from Iriarte Aleoscar Blanco (13) and Maria Jose Perez (11) in the losing cause. Glod’s points all came on kills, while Delfines added 14 kills, two blocks and two aces. Blanco added three blocks.
