The UNC Tarheels are bringing on Kendra Koetter, a junior setter transfer from Georgia Southern, for the 2017 season.  Koetter will have two seasons of eligibility left.

Hailing from Marietta, GA, Koetter had an illustrious career at the Weslyn School, tallying 2,430 assists, 329 kills, 180 aces, 672 digs and 45 blocks over the course of her four years while being named to the all-state team three times.. In addition, she was a part of three straight state championship teams and earned Maxpreps Freshman 59 AVCA Phenom List and Sophomore 79 Honorable Mention accolades.

After not seeing much action her freshman season at Georgia Southern, Koetter was able to make an impact during her sophomore season, playing in 32 of 33 matches, including a match against the Tarheels where she tallied 14 assists, 8 digs, and 3 aces in a 3 set loss. She led the team in assists (626) while playing in a two-setter, 6-2, contributing 5.17 assists/set. In addition, she had twice as many aces (27) than any member of her team.

Head coach Joe Sagula noted in a UNC press release that, “She [Koetter] is very athletic and as a veteran she will add leadership to our team, which presently has a majority of underclasswomen. Kendra has a great work ethic and is extremely passionate and competitive, which will add to our daily team culture.”

Koetter joins a UNC squad that finished first in the ACC regular season standings before winning the ACC Tournament, but fell in the Sweet-Sixteen to the UCLA Bruins in 4 sets, ending the season with a 29-4 record. Koetter will compete with sophomore Mariah Evans, who played in a 6-2 the previous season for the Tarheels.
