ACC Tabs FSU’s Caffrey, Syracuse’s Shemanova as Best of Week 5

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Payton Caffrey has been named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week, and Polina Shemanova of Syracuse has earned Freshman of the Week honors.

Caffrey helped the Seminoles to a 2-0 start in ACC play over the weekend, sweeping both Duke and Wake Forest. The junior outside hitter from Chuluota, Florida, turned in an excellent offensive effort on Sunday, hitting .600 with 18 kills and no errors in a victory over Wake Forest. Caffrey totaled a .459 hitting percentage on the weekend, averaging 5.17 kills per set while racking up 31 total kills and 10 total digs.

Shemanova and the Orange started off 2-0 in conference play, earning wins over Georgia Tech and Clemson. The rookie outside hitter from St. Petersburg, Russia, hit at a .349 clip and averaged 4.1 kills and 3.6 digs on the weekend. Shemanova recorded 29 total kills and 25 total digs on the weekend.
