ACC Volleyball: Kubura, Van Buskirk Take Weekly Honors

Florida State University outside hitter Milica Kubura was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while University of Pittsburgh middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk earned Freshman of the Week honors.

Kubura and the No. 13 Seminoles went 1-1 against SEC opponents this past weekend. In the four-set loss to seventh-ranked Florida, the junior tallied 19 kills, two blocks, a dig and finished with a  .418 hitting percentage. She followed that performance by recording eight kills and four digs in the Florida State sweep of LSU. Kubura averaged 3.86 kills per set for a .420 hitting percentage and totaled 27 kills.

Van Buskirk helped Pitt to a 2-1 weekend at the Panther Challenge. She recorded nine kills, a .300 hitting percentage, two blocks and two digs in the five-set loss to WKU. Van Buskirk recorded 12 kills in the win against Lehigh, with 16 total attacks with only one error. In the win against Robert Morris, she hit over .300, again tallying a .333 hitting percentage, five kills and two blocks. The freshman totaled 26 kills, averaging 2.60 per set, a .444 hitting percentage, seven blocks and two digs.
