With 21 digs on Saturday in American’s 4-set victory at George Washington, junior libero Kristen Largay surpassed the 1,000-career digs mark.

The Paradise Valley, Ariz., native is the seventh Eagle to reach the milestone in program history. She has registered 20 digs or more on 15 occasions in her collegiate career.

After adding nine digs Sunday against #1 Stanford, Largay is now seventh on the Eagles’ career list with 1,015 digs, 84 behind Juliana Crum’s 1,099 career total (2010-13), who is sixth. The school record is held by Natasha Sylvain, who closed her career with 1,865 digs at American (1990-94).

Largay, the reigning Patriot League Libero of the Year, notched 445 digs in her freshman season and 527 in her sophomore campaign. She has appeared in 72 career matches, with 248 sets played, playing in all of the team’s matches since her arrival in Washington D.C. Largay, who is averaging 4.30 digs per set through three matches, was selected to the 2018 Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

On her current pace and just under two seasons left in her career, Largay has the ability to break American’s 24-year-old career digs record.

Largay was one of 13 players nationwide within 100 digs of 1,000 entering the 2018 season.

American was chosen to repeat as Patriot League champs in the conference’s preseason poll. The Eagles have won five-straight league titles under head coach Barry Goldberg.
