One former Purdue Boilermaker has joined the USA Volleyball training roster, while another has left. Annie Drews is back stateside and will join the camp in Anaheim, which began officially on May 1st, after leading her club team Caguas Criollas to the Puerto Rican league title two weeks ago.
Drews finished her career at Purdue in 2015, and played her first full professional season last year as a center-piece of the Puerto Rican side. As a senior, she was named an AVCA Second Team All-American and a unanimous Big Ten selection after averaging 4.75 points per set for the Boilermakers.
Shortly before Drews’ arrival, her fellow Purdue alum Val Nichol ended her time in the training session. Nichol was a two-time All-American for Purdue and her 4 triple doubles in the 2013 and 2014 seasons are the most in program history.
In other Val-Nichol-related news, she has signed a contract to join Polish team Impel Wroclaw. She spent the last two seasons with Allianz MTV Stuttgart in Germany. Stuttgart last year won the German Cup tournament and finished 2nd behind SSC Palmberg Schwerin in the Bundelsiga finale.
