Argentina is set to take a pit stop in Naples, Italy for the Vesubio Cup before continuing on to their first World League bout in Russia.

Recently, head coach Julio Velasco called up 30 players to help prepare for the hectic summer of volleyball play. Velasco offered Argentinian star, Facundo Conte a year off from play, in which he took in order to rest up for more important play in 2018 and 2020. Velasco also offered setter Luciano De Cecco a year off, after 10 consecutive seasons of play, but declined the offer.

The end of May triangular tournament will include competition from Japan and Italy.

Argentina then will travel to Surgut, Russia to compete in the first leg of the World League, opening with matches against Bulgaria and France. In World League play, there are only 12 team that play in the top tier of the competition, with Argentina being one of them.

In the past three Olympic appearances, Argentina has placed fifth in the competition (2004, 2012, 2016). Velasco is looking to build off their Olympic momentum to continue into the 2017 season.
